In the wake of recent challenges faced by the ongoing war in Israel, Baby Sonja is proud to partner with Rena Interior Designs and Project Management who has taken upon the heartfelt mission to spread warmth, joy, and comfort during the Festival of Lights to those displaced by the adversities of the ongoing war. More than 250,000 families have been evacuated from their homes to date and struggling to find a sense or normalcy within these trying times.
The evacuated families are spread throughout Israel, staying in a variety of hotels, community centers, and lodgings. However, staying in these hotels is far from a retreat, it’s an emergency situation. Families with as many as 7 or 8 kids are living in a small hotel room, with no real escape or sense of how long they need to stay. Together, Baby Sonja and Rena Interior Designs and Project Management have created Hanukah care packages for these displaced families as if to share a “hug” of warmth and comfort in these difficult times.
Working with a few local Israeli businesses to help create the care packages, the gifts include snuggly blankets, tea infuser with mugs, fluffy socks, hot water bottles, and Chanukah crafts for kids. You can learn more and order a care package for a displaced Israeli family here - Hug for Israel.
One refugee, Lea Raivitz, 68 said, “We’ve tried to make a normal life out of an abnormal situation.” Raivitz, lives in Bar’am, a kibbutz less than 1,000 feet from the border with Lebanon. “But being a refugee, even a luxury refugee, is still a refugee. We can’t predict the future. We can’t think about the past. We live in the here and now.”
Another refugee, Batsheva Goodman from Sderot exclaimed, “It is hard to express in words how we are feeling. We have everything, but I just want my house back and my life back.” Batsheva and her husband, Asher, live in Sderot with their four children, and are among the evacuated families.
Honoring a Fallen Hero: Binyamin Airley
The campaign also carries special and personal significance as it is dedicated to the memory of a fallen soldier, Binyamin Airley, who is a cousin to Rena Glazer from Rena Interior Designs and Project Management. Binyamin made the ultimate sacrifice on November 18 protecting his people and Nation when fighting in Gaza. The initiative is a tribute to his bravery and sacrifice, and a gesture to honor his memory by extending a helping hand to those grappling with the drastic impact of war.

"Binyamin filled any room he entered with warmth, joy, and love. We hope that in his memory, this initiative will shine a bright light and comfort to Israeli families who have faced displacement and loss."
She continued, "The Jewish People have never been more united. By coming together during this festival of light, we hope to make a positive impact on the lives of those who are struggling so deeply."
